The conference held for the second-year BEd students took place on 28th October 2008 in the College. The theme of the conference was "Education for Sustainable Development in an Interdependent World" and had representation from seven organisations. After registration, the conference began with a keynote address by Andy Griggs from the Environmental Education Forum. Andy's talk was titled "ESD and the Relevance to Teachers" and he started with a quiz on students' use of ethical products. He then proceeded to show a DVD from the RSPB and provided background to ESD in the Northern Ireland Curriculum and the associated resources available.
There were 6 workshops held with the students and the facilitators were from:
- Gift International / RSPB;
- Action Renewables;
- British Red Cross;
- Christian Aid;
- Trócaire;
- Bryson House.
The workshops were a mixture of presentations and
group activities, where the facilitators informed the students
about resources, methods and examples of how to bring the issue
of education for sustainable development into the classroom.
