Entry Requirements for BEd Post-Primary

Final entry requirements are not determined until A level results or equivalent have been received and processed. The College operates a post-qualification system where offers are made following the release of A level results each year. The requirements set out below should be used as a guide only and may be amended from year to year. They do not constitute an offer. Questions regarding entry qualifications not listed below should be directed to the Admissions Office.

Interview performance and GCSE profile will be taken into account in considering applications.

• All applicants for Post-Primary courses of Initial Teacher Education must have GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
• Applicants for Post-Primary courses should have studied one of the subsidiary subjects offered to AS level or equivalent. In addition to the requirements of the main subject, a grade C at AS level is expected in a subsidiary subject.
• The GCE A level/ VCE subjects listed are required as part of the selection process. Advice on examinations deemed to be equivalent may be obtained by contacting the Admissions Office. Applicants should do this prior to submitting an application.
• For applicants applying from the Republic of Ireland, Leaving Certificate English and Mathematics Grade D (Ordinary) are minimum requirements for both Primary and Post-Primary courses of Initial Teacher Education.
• Applicants from the Republic of Ireland must have or be undertaking 6 Irish Leaving Certificates at higher level in order to be considered for the BEd Primary or Post-Primary courses.
• Where an indicative grade of B is listed for Irish Leaving Certificate (Higher level) qualifications, applicants should note that a minimum of B2 will be expected.
