The revised Core syllabus, which was phased in for Northern Ireland schools from September 2007.
CCEA
CCEA is a non-departmental public body reporting to the Department of Education in Northern Ireland on the curriculum, examinations and assessment. The Council provides information for teachers, students, parents and employers. The website has links and resources that teachers will find useful.
GTCNI
The General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland is the statutory, independent body for the teaching profession.
It is dedicated to enhancing the status of teaching and promoting the highest standards of professional conduct and practice. If you wish to teach in a grant-aided school in Northern Ireland you must be registered with the Council.
Ofsted
The Inspectorate for education in England. A useful source for information on regulations and assessment. Some of the publications are available to download
QCDA maintained and developed the National Curriculum. They accredited and monitored qualifications in colleges and at work.
On 31 March 2012 the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency closed as part of the Government’s wider education reforms and their material is now in the National Archive Website. They have been replaced by the Teaching Agency
The Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS)
The Council is the advocate for the Catholic Maintained Schools sector in Northern Ireland. CCMS represents Trustees, schools and Governors on issues such as raising and maintaining standards, the school estate and teacher employment.
The Northern Ireland Commission for Catholic Education
The website seeks to inform all stakeholders of what Catholic schools in Northern Ireland offer. The Reference section has many publications and resources which can be read online downloaded.
The Department for Employment and Learning
The Department is responsible for further and higher education, skills and training and employment in Northern Ireland.
The Department of Education (England)
The Department was established in May 2010 and is responsible for education and children's services in England.
The Teaching Agency
On 1 April 2012, the Teaching Agency became a new executive agency of the Department for Education.
With responsibility for ensuring the supply of high-quality teachers and training and for teacher regulation, the agency delivers policy for teachers and instructors; those working in Early Years; classroom-based school support staff; special educational needs co-ordinators (SENCOs); educational psychologists and examination officers.

The Department is engaged in a wide range of activities covering the key elements of policy planning, quality assurance, resourcing, regulation and evaluation, as well as providing a broad range of support services for the education sector in Ireland.
