International Writing Conference in Germany

5 July 2007

Dr Matthew Martin, Senior Lecturer in English, spoke on June 30th at the bi-annual conference of the European Association for the Teaching of Academic Writing (EATAW), held at the Ruhr-Universit├Ąt in Bochum, Germany. His talk, which was presented in collaboration with Professor Kathleen Shine Cain of Merrimack College in Massachusetts, also included a workshop aimed at helping participants from across Europe to identify strategies for supporting student writers within their own unique educational contexts. The ninety-minute presentation was entitled, "Negotiating Writing Center/Centre Identity Across Cultures".

Dr Martin commented, "This year's EATAW conference was a gathering of over 200 committed, imaginative lecturers from over thirty countries who are succeeding in finding new ways to enhance their students' thinking and writing skills by adapting different strategies for different cultural and educational environments. Professor Cain and I were delighted to be engaged in this dialogue with them."
