The aims of the masters-level programme are to provide teachers and education- related professionals with the opportunity to:
- engage in informed debate about major issues in education and training;
- reflect in depth on the relationship between theory and practice in their professional context;
- develop further their competences within their specialist areas;
- keep abreast of research and developments in education; and
- design, conduct and critically appraise research
| Course Structures The AdvCertEd, DASE and MEd are part-time modular courses within the masters-level programme.
For students entering the programme from September 2006 onwards all successfully completed masters-level modules will attract 30 M-points.

4 M-level modules, plus a 15-20,000 word dissertation.

DASE and MEd awards have named specialist options (listed below). Each has a specified set of core modules from which students study at least two:
- Curriculum Development and Primary Education
- Early Years Education
- Education Management and School Organisation
- English and Literacy in the Curriculum
- Special Education

All modules are assessed by coursework. There are no formal written examinations.
Within the overall pathway a number of options will be provided at St. Mary's University College and a number at Stranmillis University College. The options listed opposite ar offered at St. Mary's University College. |
