Careers and Employability
The Employability and Placement Officer, who is based in the Student Services Centre, provides a Careers Service for our students.
Our Careers Service offers career planning and job search resources as well as informing students about employment and further training opportunities to suit their requirements. Our services are an important component of our pastoral and professional support for students.
The Service is delivered through face-to-face interviews, careers fairs, a guest speaker programme, learning resources and an online portal of careers related information.
In addition, within the undergraduate curricula there are lectures on skills development directly related to employability and careers.
Rebecca Cassidy (BA Religion 2023)
Recently, I completed my six-week work placement at Tracey Concrete, and it has been an incredibly positive, inspiring, and rewarding experience that I will carry with me into the future. As part of my Liberal Arts degree at St Mary’s University College Belfast, this placement gave me the opportunity to step into a professional environment, apply my skills in a real-world setting, and continue developing both personally and professionally.
Roisin Hassan – My Habitat Experience
Over the last six weeks I have been working in the Habitat for Humanity Ireland office in Lisburn, I have learnt so much that I can take with me into my future. This experience has been unlike anything I have ever done before, working in an office and learning more about Habitat for Humanity. During my six-week placement, I really enjoyed getting to understand Habitat for Humanity as an organisation, the local work they do and the global work; as well as the restores, meeting customers, volunteers and members of staff. I have had new experiences and gained new skills and thoroughly enjoyed this experience.
