Annual Edmund Rice Lecture by Fr. Peter McVerry
“GOD COMES TO US IN DISGUISE”
The annual Edmund Rice Lecture took place in St Mary’s University College on Tuesday 23rd April. It was delivered by Father Peter McVerry.
Described as a strong advocate for those who have no voice in society, Fr. McVerry’s work for the past 50 years has focused on issues relating to young people, including homelessness, addiction, juvenile justice, police, prisons and education.
In the lecture, Fr. Peter explored society’s understanding of the concept of God, where to find God’s presence in society, challenged our understanding of the Mass and our views on the marginalised. For many who attended the lecture, it was an unsettling experience.
The Edmund Rice Schools Trust has reported that there have been many requests from those in attendance to view the lecture again and are grateful to him for his permission to share the video below.
