St Mary’s Staff Begin Sign Language Training
Staff at St Mary’s University College have begun a six-week programme in Sign Language Training, reflecting the College’s continued commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and lifelong learning.
The training is being delivered by John Carberry, a distinguished tutor whose depth of experience enriches the learning journey of participants. John features in the forthcoming TG4 film “A Quiet Love”, an Irish-produced documentary exploring the lives of three deaf couples who share their personal experiences of growing up and communicating in a hearing world.
Originally from West Belfast, John grew up during the years of conflict and later married a Protestant woman from Kilkeel—an experience that embodies resilience, understanding, and the ability to bridge divides.
Through initiatives such as this training, St Mary’s continues to promote a culture of openness, awareness, and respect within the College community.
