Sudanese Health Professional’s Conference
A mental health event was organised to help address challenges and mental health issues affecting Sudanese women and young people living in Northern Ireland. Members of the health service from Sudan working in Ireland, North and South, gathered in the College for a specialist conference on mental health and refugee trauma. The keynote speaker was renowned psychiatrist and authority on the mental health issues of refugees, Dr Tamador El Hassan. The conference was chaired by NHS obstetrician Dr Manal Hassan. The key outcome of the event was the confirmation that a team of Doctors will travel from Ireland to Sudan to work with women and children victims of the civil war. The conference was organized by the Sudanese Youth and Women’s Association and HAPANI. For further information please contact Professor Gerard McCann, g.mccann@stmarys-belfast.ac.uk
