Ukraine at War: Resilience and Strength
Travelling from Kyiv in Ukraine to Belfast to visit friends and family, Anastasiia Sakhnenko and Oksana Pomazanko took time out to address a large group of St Mary’s students and staff. Working for Global Mediator the two colleagues spoke of the plight families are having to endure under constant missile bombardment. They noted that over 4,200 educational institutions have been deliberately targeted and 1,300 schools destroyed; 20% of universities have been destroyed or severely damaged. They also reflected on the effects that these attacks are having on ordinary families and children in particular. The College was represented by Prof Gerard McCann and the visit was organised by Prof Nataliia Tikhonova from Kyiv National University.
