Interview performance and GCSE profile will be taken into account in considering applications.

  • All applicants for Primary courses of Initial Teacher Education must have GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and a Science subject (applicants born before 1st September 1981 are no longer exempt from the Science requirement).
  • All applicants for Secondary courses of Initial Teacher Education must have GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • All applicants for Music should have a grade 6 standard (or equivalent) in instrumental or vocal study.
  • Applicants for PE will be required to undertake a rigorous practical assessment. Guidance on the PE practical is provided prior to the assessment and applicants are recommended to make themselves familiar with its content.
  • The GCE A level/ VCE subjects listed are required as part of the selection process. Advice on examinations deemed to be equivalent may be obtained by contacting the Admissions Office. Applicants should do this prior to submitting an application.
  • For applicants applying from the Republic of Ireland, Leaving Certificate English and Mathematics Grade D (Ordinary) are minimum requirements for both Primary and Secondary courses of Initial Teacher Education. In addition, applicants for Primary courses of Initial Teacher Education must have achieved Junior Certificate Science grade C (higher level).
  • Applicants from the Republic of Ireland must have or be undertaking 6 Irish Leaving Certificates at higher level in order to be considered for the BEd Primary or Secondary courses.
