The Down and Connor Schools’ Support Service marked Catholic Schools Week with its annual presentation of the Spirt of Catholic Education Awards. On Wednesday 21 January 2026, as part of the Catholic Schools’ Week celebrations, thirty-one schools from nursery, primary and post-primary schools in the diocese of Down and Connor gathered in St Mary’s University College, to receive their award from His Lordship, Bishop Alan McGuckian.
Commissioner for the Ulster-Scots and Ulster British tradition visits St Mary’s

Our College Principal Prof. Peter Finn welcomed Lee Reynolds, Commissioner for the Ulster-Scots and Ulster British tradition as well as Alan Bree from his Office. It provided a good discussion on Lee’s role in the context of our College commitment to pluralism.
Stormont Visit

International students from St Mary’s visited Stormont for an educational tour, where they received a briefing from the Education Office, explored the building, and observed the Assembly chambers. They were accompanied by visiting academic Professor Nataliia Tikhonova and Professor Gerard McCann.

Belfast Lord Mayor Welcomes International Students

Belfast Lord Mayor Tracy Kelly welcomed a group of new international students to the city this week. A cohort of Erasmus students from partner universities in Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, and Hungary visited Belfast City Hall, where they were greeted by the Lord Mayor before enjoying a guided tour of the historic building.
