Echoes of War: Dr Magdi Ahmed at St Mary's

The College was privileged to host a lecture by eminent Dublin physiatrist, Dr Magdi Ahmed, who spoke about the social impact of the current civil war in Sudan. In a two year conflict that has seen the loss of an estimated 150,000 lives, with 12 million people being displaced and 24 million facing acute food shortages, Dr Ahmed highlighted the generational effects this will have on the whole Sahel region. He also used the visit to St Mary’s to launch his new book ‘The Circles of Oppression’ and voiced his concern that this war will have further global ramifications if not brought to an end. The questions and answers session was chaired by Dr Abdelbagi Ahmed. For further information, contact Prof Gerard McCann, g.mccann@stmarys-belfast.ac.uk
