Empowering Catholic Schools with Values-Based RSE

On Friday 21st November the Catholic Schools Trustee Service (CSTS) held a RSE training event in St Mary’s University College. This was an opportunity for schools to hear from Michelle Manley, one of the writers of the Living Love resource and from Hannah Evans, co-ordinator of the Council for Evangelisation, Catechetics and Pastoral Renewal (ECPR).

The event was opened by Professor Peter Finn, on behalf of St Mary’s who noted the ongoing professional connections developed between CSTS and the College and the importance of the provision of high-quality RSE for the young people in Catholic schools.

CSTS has worked in collaboration with the Catholic Education Partnership and the Bishops’ Conference on the development of RSE learning resources. This latest resource ‘Living Love’ is being released to all Catholic post-primary schools in the north and in two dioceses in the south, on a pilot basis.

Living Love Senior Cycle responds to the challenge educators face with the growing uncertainty in delivering RSE that both respects diverse beliefs, life choices and sexual identities, while remaining faithful to the Catholic ethos of their school.

This high-quality resource offers a comprehensive, values-based RSE digital programme that presents all the factual information students need to navigate life in today’s world. It communicates a wholesome and beautiful vision for love, relationships and sex in a relatable, attractive and interactive manner, while being respectful to the various beliefs and opinions within the Irish classroom.
