St Mary’s Welcomes GAA Hurling Development Roadshow
St Mary’s University College was pleased to host the inaugural Ulster GAA Hurling Development Roadshow on Friday, 9 May 2025. The event, delivered in partnership with the GAA’s National Hurling Development Committee, brought together a wide range of stakeholders passionate about advancing the sport of hurling across the province and beyond.
Held in the College Hall, the evening attracted club representatives, coaches, players and officials from across Ulster. Guests were welcomed with refreshments in the Dining Hall before the formal programme commenced.
Chaired by Terry Reilly, Chairman of the National Hurling Development Committee, the roadshow began with an overview of national hurling development priorities. Mr Reilly also delivered the closing remarks, bookending an evening of reflection and strategic discussion.
A highlight of the evening was the keynote address by Jarlath Burns, President of the GAA, who outlined his vision for the future of hurling. Emphasising unity, investment and opportunity, Mr Burns praised the commitment shown by Ulster counties and the importance of sustained collaboration.
William Maher, Head of Hurling, delivered a detailed presentation on the current hurling landscape and strategic focus areas for 2025–2030. Topics included participation trends, provincial development planning and the importance of county-specific progress reporting.
The session concluded with an engaging discussion and Q&A. The audience appreciated the opportunity to raise questions, offer insights and share experiences relevant to their own counties and clubs.
St Mary’s was pleased to provide the venue and support for such a pivotal event. As a centre of excellence in education and community engagement, the College is pleased to contribute to the development of Gaelic Games and looks forward to supporting similar initiatives in future.
