Advice on Grade Profiles or Equivalent UCAS Tariff Points

Science students- entry requirements

What grades do I require to gain a place on a Course for the BEd (Hons) degree programmes?

St Mary’s administers an independent student admissions system which uses grades achieved and published after assessment/examination, rather than using predicted grades (which is the UCAS approach).  Therefore in most cases the College will make offers to applicants after results are published in August, on the basis of the highest ranked applicants for each course.

Each year we publish the most common grade profiles which successful applicants attained to gain entry to our undergraduate courses in the preceding two years.

The grade profiles provide applicants with a general indication of the type of results which most likely will be required to obtain a place.  It should be noted that the grade profiles are the ‘most common’ in a given year, and are therefore a guide only.

BEd (Hons) Primary with Science – Grade Profile September 2022

Most common grade profile for entry in September 2022 – AAB.

The UCAS tariff point equivalence – 136.

BEd (Hons) Primary with Science – Grade Profile September 2023

Most common grade profile for entry in September 2023 –  AAA.

The UCAS tariff point equivalence – 144.

Additional Information

  • Initial Teacher Education (ITE) courses at St Mary’s have a focus on a particular subject so a high grade in that subject is required.
  • All applicants for ITE are interviewed for their suitability and the outcomes of the interviews can also be used in making decisions on admission.
  • GCSE grades can also be taken into account.
  • The number of applicants that St Mary’s can admit to the BEd degree programmes is strictly controlled by the Department of Education.
