Gazan Teachers Training Initiative

In partnership with the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work at Queen’s University Belfast, the charity Forward Thinking, and the Egyptian NGO the Shaf Center, St Mary’s continues to support the training of Gazan teachers. Having lost out on over two years of practice, the teachers gathered in person in April in Cairo and online from Gaza to enhance their knowledge and professional skills. The Gazan Teachers Training Initiative (GTTI) has been ongoing since summer 2025 and has saw dozens of teachers participating in a number of specialist education seminars leading to a certificate on professional enhancement and authorised by the various partners. This second Cairo training event was opened by Prof Peter Finn, Principal of the College, and was attended in person by Dr Fearghal Mac Bhloscaidh. Prof Joanne Hughes, Lesley Emerson and Dr Suzanne Mooney represented QUB, while Dr Geraldine Parks and Prof Gerard McCann represented the College online throughout the proceedings. The follow-up to this highly successful teacher training initiative will be online collaboration, in-person conferences and continued training seminars.
