On admission applicants must possess:

• an honours degree (with classification 2.2 or above) or equivalent from a recognised university. 
• GCSE (grade C or above) in English Language, Mathematics and Science.
• Applicants from the Republic of Ireland must have achieved Irish Leaving Certificate qualifications for English, Mathematics and Science at grade 04 or above at ordinary level or H7 or above at higher level.  Where an applicant has not achieved Leaving Certificate at ordinary or higher level, then Junior Certificate/Cycle in English, Maths and Science at 04 (Merit) or above will be accepted.
• Applicants must have a high level of competence in Irish, both written and oral, commensurate with competence to teach the primary school curriculum.

Candidates are Interviewed as part of the selection process.  Oral and written Irish language proficiency is among the competences that are evaluated at interview.
