The Education Development in Ukraine (EDUWAP) Summit
The Education Development in Ukraine (EDUWAP) Summit had its second meeting in Belfast in January 2025, bringing together education and international development professors from Ukraine, the USA, the UK and Ireland. The programme’s aim is to assess the needs for education provision during and after the war. The Summit was addressed by the Minister for the Economy, Conor Murphy, Belfast’s Lord Mayor, Micky Murray, the College’s Principal, Professor Peter Finn, and the Ukrainian High Consul, Alan Moore. The highlight of the gathering was a Reception in the College where Ukrainian community representatives in Northern Ireland had a chance to meet with the delegates. University participants from Lutsk, Kyiv and Lviv joined discussions on issues such as child trauma during conflict, therapy and counselling for children and staff, student teacher’s needs, continued professional training for teachers, veterans re-entering the education system, reestablishing damaged universities and schools, and the reform of the education system. The next summit is in Lutsk. For further information, contact Professor Gerard McCann g.mccann@smucb.ac.uk
